Lord, Use Me as Your Instrument to Your Glory
Lord Jesus, give me a faithful heart that I may love Your holy Word, prize it highly, hear it reverently, and improve my life accordingly. May I not only understand Your Word correctly but also reflect it in my life of words, thoughts, and actions. Lead me to live in accordance with Your Word day-by-day and increase in good works. In this way, hallow Your name, let Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done. Amen. [Adapted from a prayer of Martin Luther]
In prophesy, the promised Christ—the Anointed One—speaks and declares what His work would be. He was anointed to preach good tidings, to heal the brokenhearted, to comfort, to console, to give the joy of salvation.
Jesus’ ministry had begun to take shape. In a series of days, John told his disciples that someone greater than he was coming; then John identified Jesus as the Lamb of God; then Jesus called four of His disciples; and then Jesus performed His first miracle—changing water to wine. Step-by-step Jesus reveals Himself as the Son of God.
