Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord Jesus, my Savior, my Brother, my Priest: How I marvel that not only did You sacrifice Yourself for my sins, but You continue to go to our Father on my behalf, living to make intercession for me. Thank You and all praise be to You! Send Your Spirit through the Word to work meekness in my proud heart so that I receive Your Word properly, eagerly, and with faith. Then further bless me with the motivation and faithfulness to take Your Word to heart and apply it to my daily words and activities and the thoughts of my heart. Make me a faithful doer and not only a hearer—to the glory of Your Name. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 65

First Reading:

Hebrews 7:23-27

The Old Testament priests could only offer the daily sacrifices as pictures of what was to come. Their time of service ended with their death, and they all did die. Jesus, our High Priest, offered Himself in sacrifice. His sacrifice pictured nothing—it accomplished the redemption of sins. Nor does His service ever end, for though He died, He has risen again. He is our living Savior who continues to intercede before the Father on our behalf.

Second Reading:

Luke 11:1-13

Jesus gave the all-encompassing petitions of the Lord’s Prayer and then went on to encourage an active prayer life. Be persistent in prayer. Be confident in prayer knowing that Your Father will only give what will be a blessing to you.
