Shepherd the Shepherdless Sheep
O Living Savior, my Good Shepherd—nurture me by the pastures of Your choosing, protect me by the might of Your power, guide me with the wisdom of Your Word and by the actions of Your grace, carry me in Your arms when I am weak and helpless, snatch me from the mouth of my enemies with Your saving arm, hold me close in Your loving embrace now and forever. Amen.
We are straying sheep, but by God’s grace and salvation we have returned to the Shepherd of our souls. None of this was our doing. Rather, it was accomplished entirely by our sinless and patient Shepherd who laid down His life for us, the sheep.
God inspired King David to write the image-rich psalm of the Good Shepherd—Psalm 23. Jesus’ life and ministry completes the picture by fulfilling the imagery with what Jesus has done for us and continues to do for us. He is, without question, our Good Shepherd.
