Pre-Service Prayer:

Dear Jesus, the excitement surrounding the celebration of Your birth is growing, the anticipation is great. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, work in my heart an equal anticipation and readiness for Your second coming. Keep the joy of salvation ever blossoming in my mind and heart so that I may go about my daily life of service to You in peace and with rejoicing. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 98

First Reading:

Isaiah 51:3-5

God illustrates His salvation as a barren wilderness that transforms into a lush and beautiful garden. The “arm” of God is righteous and just, it brings salvation, and on that arm we sinners can put our trust and not be disappointed.

Second Reading:

James 5:7-20

It can be difficult to wait for the Lord to reveal His will and plans to us. Old Testament believers waited generations for God to reveal His salvation and send the Savior. We wait for Jesus’ return. While living and serving our Savior we wait as well for God to unfold His plans for our earthly lives. In all of this, be patient. Just as a farmer waits for rain and then reaps a harvest, so too the Lord will come in a time of His wise choosing.
