Topic(s): Ministry
Hymns: 18; 492(1,3); 446; 331; 464
Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord Jesus, give me a love for souls that is like Your love for them. Teach me to be patient with others. Give
me courage to rebuke sin but to do so in love with the goal of leading others to repentance. When I become caught up in sin, give me Christian brothers and sisters who will show love to me by correcting me, and give me ready and open ears to listen. Increase a watchfulness among us all so that we are ready to serve one another with Your Word. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 119:105-120

First Reading:

Ezekiel 33:1-11

God’s Word rebukes sin and calls the sinner to repentance. God has made each of His children a watchman for souls by giving us His Word and commissioning us to use it—including rebuking sin with His Law. A love for souls cannot turn a blind eye to sin but rather seeks to expose it and rebuke it. Once the Law has convicted the sinner, the watchman of souls is also able to provide the comfort of the Gospel.

Second Reading:

Romans 13:8-10

Every sin that we commit is in some way a lack of love toward God and those whom we sin against. A genuine love that looks out for our neighbor fulfills the law. It is this love that we pray motivates and moves us in all of our dealings with others.
