Hymns: 15; 366(1,4,5,7): 755; LSB 866
Pre-Service Prayer:

Show me Your ways, O LORD, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long. Remember, O LORD, Your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to Your love remember me, for You are good, O LORD. For the sake of Your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in You. Amen. [Psalm 25]

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 119:97-112

First Reading:

1 Kings 2:1-4

David’s dying message to his son, Solomon, was to “keep charge of the LORD… walk in His ways.” Such faithfulness to the Lord and His Word would result in rich blessing both in time and eternity.

Second Reading:

1 Corinthians 1:18-31

Pursuing knowledge and understanding, i.e. education, in the things of God may seem rather worthless according to human reasoning: “There’s no money in that!” and “It’s all just foolishness!” As foolish as God’s wisdom may look to human reason, it is true wisdom. God’s wisdom provides answers to this life’s questions and leads to the richest of blessings.
