Topic(s): God-Triune
Hymns: 239; 244(1,4); 250; 248; 800
Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—I give You praise and thanks for Your wise and powerful creation and preservation, for Your gracious redemption, and the enlightenment of bringing us into that salvation through faith. For all that You have done and continue to do for us I worship You! Father, keep me ever in Your care as a beloved child; Son, forgive me, treasure me, and bless me always as my brother; Holy Spirit, preserve me in true faith and equip me to be a faithful witness to the God of my salvation. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 150

First Reading:

Jeremiah 10:1-16

Through the prophet, God reveals the foolishness of idols. The people expended great effort in making the image which they later (after all of their work) worshipped as god. There is only one true God and whether one’s idol is an actual image or simply people or things of the earth, the Triune God alone is worthy of our worship, honor, devotion, and love.

Second Reading:

John 3:1-17

While sharing the heart of the Gospel with Nicodemus, Jesus describes how each person of the Trinity is involved with our salvation. The Father gave His Son who was lifted up and died on the cross, and the Holy Spirit gives rebirth by bringing the sinner to faith in Jesus and His redeeming work.
