Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord God, when I consider that You are three persons and yet one God, it goes so far beyond my understanding that I am left in awe and wonderment. I also confess that because Your nature goes beyond my reason, I sometimes doubt and am skeptical of what Your Word teaches. Forgive me for my doubts and strengthen my faith. Today as we worship You fill my heart with joy and certainty in all that You reveal in Your Word, come to me, and bless me. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 73

First Reading:

Ephesians 1:3-14

From eternity, God the Father chose us to be His children. This choice was not because of anything in us, what we would do, or who we would become. The Father’s choice was completely by grace in connection with His Son–Jesus Christ–who came to the earth and redeemed sinners. As the Gospel of Christ goes forth, the Holy Spirit works through the Word bringing sinners to faith and gathering the elect into the family of God. The Holy Spirit living in us is the guarantee of our inheritance in heaven.

Second Reading:

Matthew 28:16-20

When Jesus gave us the commission to “make disciples of all nations,” He identified Baptism as a way to do this. We are to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit–the three “persons” of the one true God.
