Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, be present now, our hearts in true devotion bow, Your Spirit send with grace divine, and let Your truth within us shine.

Unseal our lips to sing Your praise, our souls to You in worship raise. Make strong our faith, increase our light that we may know Your name aright. Amen. [TLH 3:1-2]

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 33

First Reading:

Romans 7:7-25

There is a tug-o-war between a believer’s desire to serve his Lord and his sinful nature’s desire to follow sin. Our flesh is opposed to God and rebels against Him. Jesus our Savior rescues us from the grip of sin and our flesh.

Second Reading:

Luke 4:16-30

Jesus revealed Himself as the promised Messiah when He identified Himself as the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. The people of Nazareth couldn’t get past their view of Jesus as the ordinary man who grew up among them. They tried to kill Jesus, but it wasn’t yet time for Jesus to die, so their plans failed and God’s will prevailed.
