Topic(s): God-Holy Spirit
Hymns: 44, 234, 230, 235(1-4,7), 740
Pre-Service Prayer:

Shine in our hearts, O most precious Light,
That we Jesus Christ may know aright,
Clinging to our Savior, whose blood hath bought us.
Who again to our homeland hath brought us. Lord, have mercy!
Thou sacred Love, grace on us bestow,
Set our hearts with heavenly fire aglow
That with hearts united we love each other,
Of one mind, in peace with every brother. Lord, have mercy!

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 51

First Reading:

Ezekiel 36:22-28

The people of Israel had profaned the name of the Lord. In judgment, God allowed the people to be carried into captivity. Nevertheless, God would gather them; He would cleanse them and give them new, living hearts in place of their stony rebellious hearts. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, God calls and gathers His children from among sinners and gives them hearts that trust in Him.

Second Reading:

John 14:15-21

Jesus promised that the Father would give the Helper—the One who would call God’s children to His side and give comfort, help, encouragement, enlightenment, understanding, and the forgiveness of sins. The One whom Jesus promised is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enlightens sinners by working faith in their hearts through the Gospel.
