Pre-Service Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your Son to me in Your Word and through the Holy Spirit working faith in my heart to believe Your revelation. There is much in Your Word that I cannot fully grasp and at times I am led into doubts. Continue to give me Your grace and work in me with Your power so that when doubts do arise, Your Word will chase them away and strengthen my faith. Bless all who are gathered for worship today. With Your word uplift us and hear our prayers. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 72

First Reading:

Isaiah 60:1-6

Sin’s darkness blanketed the whole earth. The Light of Salvation was something that faithful Israelites had, but Isaiah foretold of a time when Gentiles would come to the Light, offer their praise, and worship the Lord. When the Gentile wisemen came to worship Jesus, this prophesy was fulfilled, but not only then. These words continue to be fulfilled as the light of the Gospel goes forth through the children of God.

Second Reading:

Matthew 2:1-12

The wisemen came from afar to worship the "King of the Jews." Herod was afraid because he thought this King would be a threat to his own earthly kingdom. That was not the case, for although Jesus came and is revealed to us as a King, His is not an earthly kingdom. Rather, Jesus came to defeat our spiritual enemies and thereafter live and reign in our hearts with His Word.
