Hymns: 540; 366(1-2,5,7); 409; 784
Pre-Service Prayer:

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty; hold me with Thy pow’rful hand.
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more. Amen. [TLH 54, st. 1]

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 104

First Reading:

James 3:13-18, James 4:1-17

A "wisdom" that includes envy, selfishness, and pride is earthly and not really wisdom at all. True wisdom from God is peaceable, gentle, just, and follows God’s will. This true wisdom humbles us before God and submits our will to His will. We plan our lives, but God directs them even if that means our plans fail—and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Second Reading:

Luke 10:38-42

On the day that Jesus visited her home, Martha was distracted with much serving. Mary, on the other hand, focused her attention on Jesus and His Word. God’s truth is the one thing needed to direct the steps of our lives.
