Pre-Service Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for adopting me as your precious child by grace. Jesus, thank You for coming to the earth to die for the sins of the whole world (mine included!) and doing what was needed to bring sinners into the family of God. Holy Spirit thank You for bringing me and my fellow believers to faith. Continue to work mightily through the Word and bring others into God’s family. Work in the hearts of all who gather here today. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 111

First Reading:

Hosea 1:1-11, Hosea 2:1

The people of Israel had prostituted themselves by committing "spiritual adultery" and following false gods. The prophet Hosea’s life became a living testimony to the people. God told Hosea to marry a prostitute and name two of their children "No Mercy" and "Not My People." However, God also foretold of a restoration when He would extend His mercy and show His love by calling the rebellious sinners "His people." That same amazing love is shown to us when God calls us His children.

Second Reading:

Acts 16:16-32

Paul and Silas were imprisoned for ruining the income of the men who owned the slave girl possessed by an evil spirit. Paul and Silas’ imprisonment proved to be the salvation of the jailer and his family. The jailer had no "blood" connection to Paul and Silas for he was a Gentile. Nevertheless, before the night was over he was joined to them in a more blessed familial bond than blood could ever make—they were brothers in the Lord!
