A Word of Truth #9-11 September 11, 2002
We knew what fear was, but a year ago we experienced in a new way. We knew what destruction was, but we stared in disbelief to watch scenes that our minds could scarcely comprehend, but our eyes kept saying were true.
Today, we remember. We remember with sadness those who lost their lives. We remember with appreciation and admiration those who sacrificed themselves for others.
Above all, we remember human frailty and the passing nature of everything on this earth. What was once tall and strong is no more. What was once an assumed security has been replaced with recognized vulnerability. The solution to such things will never be found on the earth, but is given by the Triune God. He alone is able to protect and He alone gives the forgiveness of sins and the promise of life eternal.
As the images of 9-11 once again pass before your eyes, the Lord of all speaks these words to your hearts: “…Be still, and KNOW that I am God…The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge!” (Psalm 46:1-3,10-11)
A Word of Truth #031
How do you get to heaven? Many people falsely assume that the answer is “by keeping the Ten Commandments.” Yet the Bible is very clear when it says, “By the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His (that is, God’s) sight” (Romans 3:20a). God’s law instructs us concerning His will for our lives, but it cannot save us, for we do not keep it perfectly as God demands. Consequently, the primary purpose of God’s law is not to save us, but rather to show us that we need a Savior!
The Bible reveals that Jesus Christ is that Savior, and it informs us that Jesus did two things to save us. He lived a holy and perfect life in our place and He then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. When we are led to trust in Him as our Savior we receive His perfection and our sins are removed opening the door to heaven.
