A Word of Truth #172
DEATH. It is everywhere—death by age, disease, accident, street crime, and war.
DEATH. To many it is fearful, something to be avoided at all costs.
DEATH. It is unavoidable in a world that is affected by sin, for the wages of sin is death (cf. Romans 6:23).
When God created Adam He made a man out of clay and then “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life” (Genesis 2:7). When we die, that breath of life—our soul is again separated from our body. God says in Ecclesiastes, “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
God has shown His grace to us sinners by giving His Son, Jesus, to save us from death. Because Jesus has defeated sin and death for us, He promises, “He who believes in me, though he may die, shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).
A Word of Truth #173
Children often live lives of joyous expectation—waiting for their next birthday, looking forward to a school holiday, watching for grandpa and grandma’s car to pull into the driveway. Children of God—those who place their faith in Jesus Christ—can also live their lives in joyous expectation. They can look forward to the fulfillment of every promise of their heavenly Father and of Jesus Christ their Savior. The Father assures us that His Son, Jesus, will return on the last day to judge the living and the dead. Jesus informs us that He is preparing a place for every believer in heaven and will come again, so that all believers will spend eternity with Him in heaven. While God’s children must often face troubles and challenges in this world, they nonetheless can live their lives in joyous expectation of glories to come.
