A Word of Truth #158
Do you believe that you were born sinful, under God’s wrath, and in need of a Savior?
Do you believe that God so loved the world that He sent His Son to be your Savior?
Do you believe that Jesus Christ, true God and true man, lived a perfect life to fulfill God’s demands for you?
Do you believe that Jesus died on the cross, suffering your eternal punishment in your place?
Do you believe that Jesus rose to life on the third day and now lives for you?
Do you believe that God has given you Christ’s righteousness so that He now declares you righteous in His sight?
Do you believe that Jesus will raise you from the dead and give you eternal life in heaven?
If you believe these things, you are believing what God says in His Word, and you believe it because the Holy Spirit has worked faith in your hearts. “No one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:3). {WCE}
A Word of Truth #159
We pray, “Our Father,” and we confess that Jesus is the Son of God, but who exactly is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity—the one, true God. The Bible identifies Him as such when it instructs Christians to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Mt. 28:19).
The Bible reveals that the Holy Spirit is true God. When two people in the early church lied to the Apostle Peter about a gift they had given, he told that they were lying to the Holy Spirit. By so doing they were not lying to men, Peter said, but rather to God! The Bible presents the Holy Spirit as being everywhere at one time, knowing all things, and existing from all eternity. Without question the Holy Spirit is true God along with the Father and the Son. He is worthy of both our honor and our praise. {PDN}
