Jesus Sits at God’s Right Hand

A Word of Truth #148

When Old Testament Joseph interpreted the Pharaoh’s dreams concerning the coming famine in Egypt, Pharaoh rewarded him by making him “the right hand man of Egypt” ruling with the authority of the king. King Solomon’s mother sat on a throne at his right hand—a place of honor and influence (1 Kings 2:19).

We are told that God has “seated [Jesus] at [God’s] right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power…and He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the Church.” (Ephesians 1:20-22).

God is a spirit and as such does not have a physical right hand. Jesus is described as sitting at the right hand of God so that we can know and be confident that He has all authority, power, and honor as the Son of God. It means that Jesus now in heaven ruling the affairs of the earth for the benefit of His Church. Jesus is at the right hand of God ruling over us with all power.

Jesus Will Return to Judge the Living and the Dead

A Word of Truth #149

Imagine standing before a judge, who knows all of your thoughts, words, and actions. The scenario sounds like the plot of a sci-phy horror movie, for we all have committed sins that we would like to keep secret. Yet on the last day, we will all stand before just such an all-knowing judge. The Bible informs us that God “has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained” (Acts 17:31). That “Man” is Jesus Christ. One day He will return to judge both the living and the dead. For those who have rejected Jesus and His work of redemption, it will truly be a day of horrors, for they will pay the penalty for all their sins. For those who embrace Jesus by faith, however, there is no need to fear this judgment, for their sins have all been removed and a verdict of not-guilty is assured.
