Christ Humbled Himself for You

A Word of Truth #144

Jesus, your Savior, is the eternal Son of God. The eternal Son of God humbled Himself, that is, He set aside His divine honor and glory for a time to become man and be your servant. Jesus’ time of humiliation lasted from His conception through His burial and ended when He rose gloriously on Easter morning. During this time, Jesus lived and appeared as would any man and did not use His divine power fully.

Christ Jesus…made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8).

It is a testimony to God’s great love for sinners that the eternal Son of God came to be our servant. “You know the grace (the love) of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).

Jesus is Our Exalted Lord!

A Word of Truth #145

The Christian gospel speaks directly of Jesus Christ. Jesus, according to God the Father’s plan for our salvation, humbled Himself. He entered this world as a human being, refrained from making full use of His powers, suffered, died, and was buried to remove the guilt of our sin.

That having been accomplished, the Bible assures us that God the Father raised Him from the dead and, “has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Jesus, who died as our blessed Savior, is now our exalted Lord, before whom all will one day bow!
