A Word of Truth #142
Imagine if there was salvation from sin, but no one was quite sure who could receive it or for whom the salvation was planned. Such a salvation would give little comfort and no true hope. The forgiveness of sins and salvation which God gives to us through Jesus is certain and gives great comfort and full hope.
When Jesus died for sinners, it was not only for the elite, nor only for the downtrodden. It was not based upon income, age, or nationality. When Jesus died for sinners, He died for the whole world! He died for the sins of every man, woman, and child who ever has lived, is living, and ever will live. “Christ Himself is the [satisfactory payment] for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world!” (1 John 2:2).
There is no one who has not been saved by Jesus Christ. Some will be lost eternally because they have rejected the salvation which Christ won, but Jesus saved the whole world!
A Word of Truth #143
Slavery is an ugly thought which in America forces us to confront an ugly past. Slavery, however, is not simply a past condition, nor it is always a physical condition. The most common form of slavery today is the spiritual slavery of human beings to sin, death, and Satan. By nature every human being is subject to the bondage of this unholy trinity!
Thank God there is a solution for spiritual slavery. God sent His Son to redeem the world from its bondage. Jesus shed His blood to “set (us) free from sin” (Romans 6:18). Jesus’ resurrection assures us that “death is swallowed up in victory” (1 Corinthians 15:54) and that “the works of the devil,” including his control over our lives have been destroyed (1 John 3:8). Rejoice in the freedom, which is yours through Jesus Christ.
