A Word of Truth #134
God created Adam and Eve in His image, that is, without sin and with a perfect knowledge of God. The image of God was lost when Adam and Eve fell into sin. In place of holiness, sin now rules in the natural hearts of everyone, and the perfect knowledge of God is clouded and lost. Sin also brings the judgement of eternal death. “For, the wages of sin is death.”
Jesus Christ has come and paid the penalty of our sins. Jesus has redeemed us from death. God has revealed Himself in His Word so that we can come to know Him and His Son and thereby by saved from eternal death. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, sinners are brought to faith in Jesus and a “new man” is created in their hearts. This new creation is again in the image of God and delights in the will of God. “…put on the new man which was created according to God in righteousness and true holiness.” (Ephesians 4:24).
A Word of Truth #135
No one who is thinking properly will enter a cage with a hungry and vicious lion because he might very well become the lion’s next meal.
We know enough to stay away from the danger of a hungry predator, but many people don’t exercise the same precaution against a hungry spiritual predator. Peter describes Satan as “A roaring lion walking about, seeking whom he may devour.” The Devil is hungry predator and you are his choice for prey. It is extremely dangerous to underestimate the reality of Satan. He is a real spiritual being—a fallen angel—who is seeking your soul’s destruction. He works through the temptations of the world and of our sinful flesh. He delights in our sin. All too often sinners play with him and with his temptations as if he were not real, or were a fuzzy kitten and not a hungry lion.
Beware! Your soul has an enemy. He’s hungry and he wants to devour your soul.
Stand guard! Be strong in the Lord! (Ephesians 6).
