A Word of Truth #128
“I believe in God.” The words are not hard to say and it can mean as little as, “I believe in the existence of a higher being.” To confess a genuine faith in the true God makes “I believe” a phrase of greater significance.
Picture a drowning man who is thrown a life-preserver. In order for that life preserver to save the man from death he must know what it is, understand that it can save someone from drowning, and then finally he has to trust that it will save his life.
In a similar way, someone who believes in the true God needs to know first of all who that God is. Faith also understands and believes that God has sent His Son, Jesus, to save all sinners from their sin and that His work of salvation is effective. Finally, a believer trusts that the Word of God and Christ's salvation applies to him individually.
I believe in the true God when I accept God’s Word as true and trust that word for my life.
A Word of Truth #129
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). These words, which begin the Bible, reveal much about the nature of God. God—the one, true God of the Bible—is the Creator God! He possesses all power and all wisdom, and He used them both to create the world in which we now live.
These same words, however, also speak to our relationship with God, for if God created the heavens and the earth that means He also created us, as the Bible clearly testifies. As His creatures we are responsible to Him. His power and wisdom directly impact us. He knows us intimately—our weaknesses and our strengths. He guides, directs, blesses, and one day will judge us. Learn more about your Creator God as He reveals Himself in the Bible.
