Pursue Purity

A Word of Truth #118

Store shelves are lined with gallons of water advertised as pure water.

While much is spent for water purity, many resources are also used in pursuing impurity in other areas of life. The apostle Paul writes, “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).

The world entices us to pursue impurity by flooding our eyes and ears with sinful sights and sounds. The world continually stretches the boundary of its self-proclaimed levels of decency. The truth is that God’s boundary—His law—has not changed. He desires—even commands—purity in the keeping of His Law.

Our hearts are impure, but they have been cleansed by Jesus washing away our sins. God desires His forgiven children to pursue purity in their lives and He promises to bless it.

Create in me a clean—a pure— heart, O God.” (Psalm 51:10).

God Wants Us to Make Proper Use of All He Entrusts to Us

A Word of Truth #119

Our money is God’s money. Our possessions are God’s possessions. Our talents are God’s talents. Our time is God’s time. Do those statement shock you? Does something inside of you want to object and say, “No, my money, possessions, talents, and time are mine—not God’s?” Yet, those statements are true. God gives us our time, our talents, our possessions, and our money. They belong to Him, but He entrusts them to us. He wants us to use them wisely.

In the Bible God reveals that He wants us to use all of the gifts He entrusts to us to serve Him in His kingdom, to care for our families, to help those less fortunate than ourselves, and to pay the taxes required by our government. By doing so we fulfill our responsibilities and thereby both glorify God and assure others and ourselves His divine blessing.
