A Word of Truth #102 (2 Corinthians 13:14)
God instructed His Old Testament priests to pronounce a three-fold benediction upon the gathered believers. This blessing was more than a prayer asking for God’s blessing, it was the Triune God pronouncing His blessing upon the people!
In a similar way, the apostles pronounced God’s blessing upon New Testament believers. The apostle Paul closed his second letter to the Corinthians by saying, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Corinthians 13:14).
In all times and all places, the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—comes to His people and blesses them. The undeserved love of God is demonstrated to us by the Father sending His Son, Jesus, who willingly laid down His life for our sins. The Holy Spirit calls sinners to faith through the Gospel and gathers them into God’s family. This love, this salvation, this place in the family of God is a gift to us from our gracious God. It is His blessing pronounced through His Word!
A Word of Truth #103
The Bible is a large book and at times somewhat difficult for people to understand. The key to understanding the Bible is to realize that in spite of its length there are really only two major doctrinal themes: the law and the gospel. The apostle John put it this way, “The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” The law is God’s word, which tells us what to do, and what not to do and the punishment for breaking it. The gospel is God’s word, which tell of His great love for us human being in Jesus, whom He sent to die to save us from our sins. If you approach your study of the Bible with these two doctrinal themes in mind, you will be able to understand better what God had in mind for you to learn, as He inspired His prophets and apostles to write the Bible.
