A Word of Truth #100 (1 Timothy 4:15-16)
Ahh…its done! My diploma is in hand, I’ve graduated, and I’ll never have to go to another class again!
The sentiment of graduation is one of completion—at least the completion of one phase in education. Still, the student who would suppose that graduation signals the end of learning, of growth, and of study will be a student who will almost certainly not achieve success.
As students of God’s Word, there is no graduation. Paul’s words to Timothy are encouragement for us, “Meditate on [the truths of Scripture], give yourself entirely to them…take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them…” (1 Timothy 4:14ff).
Graduation with a diploma also indicates a “job well done” on the part of the student. As students of God’s Word we recognize that the work and accomplishment are not ours, for it is God who works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure.
Congratulations to all of this year’s graduates, and to all students of God’s Word—May the Lord richly bless your continuing study and growth.
A Word of Truth #101 (cf. Acts 4:12)
The apostles Peter and John once healed a man who had been lame from birth. They did so in the name of Jesus Christ. When confronted by the religious leaders of their day, who opposed Jesus, they not only explained how the miracle had been performed—through Jesus’ name, but they also insisted, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
This apostolic teaching—that the name of Jesus alone saves—runs contrary to the convictions of many in our day, who suggest that all religious are essentially the same, that there are many roads to heaven, and that all sincere people will finally be saved. The fact that Jesus is the only name leading to salvation is eternal truth. Dear listeners, learn about Jesus by reading the Bible.
