A Word of Truth #092 (John 20:28)
Thomas found it hard to believe the other disciples’ words when they told him that Jesus was alive. He vowed never to believe it unless he himself witnessed it. One week after Jesus rose from the dead, He again appeared to the disciples this time including Thomas. When Thomas saw Jesus he exclaimed, “My Lord and My God.” Jesus replied, “Thomas because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Faith is the evidence of things not seen. We have not seen Jesus on the earth, but we are able to see Him clearly in the Scriptures. Thomas’ exclaimed, “My Lord and My God” with loving identification and thankful joy toward his Savior. Jesus is likewise our risen & living Savior. The more we study Scripture, the more we listen to His voice, the more we learn of His great love, the more we will confidently identify Him as “Our Lord and our God.”
A Word of Truth #093 (John 20:29)
“I’ll believe that, when I see it!” That is pretty much our attitude these days, isn’t it? We demand to see proof, before we believe anything, no doubt because there is so much dishonesty in our world.
There was once a man who demanded proof before he would believe in Jesus’ resurrection. Thomas demanded to see the nail-prints in Jesus’ hands. He wanted to stick his hand into Jesus’ pierced side, before he would believe in the resurrection. When Jesus appeared to Thomas in person, He urged him to look and to touch, so that he would believe and no longer reject this vital truth. Thomas, believing, fell down before Jesus and confessed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Jesus then instructed him, as He does us: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29).
