A Word of Truth #029
Does the devil really exist, or is he simply a fictional character fit only for use as a mascot for sports’ teams and canned ham? The Bible says the devil does exist as a real spiritual being. It explains that the devil, also called Satan or Lucifer, was an angel created by God, who led a rebellion in heaven against God. Having been cast out of heaven, he led mankind into sinful rebellion here on earth.
The devil is real and has angelic powers. He is not, however, as some cultures suggest divine. The Bible warns us to beware of him, saying, “Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). At the same time, the Bible assures us that Jesus Christ has defeated the devil (cf. Hebrews 2:14) and, therefore, God’s children can successfully resist him here on this earth (1 Peter 5:9).

Mom takes a calcium supplement for her bones, Dad takes Vitamin E for his heart, and the children have a Flinstone vitamin each morning.
This family may have strong bodies, but a family of strong bodies is not necessarily a strong family. In a world that is greatly over-paced and often obsessed with worldly accumulation, it is not always easy to maintain a strong family. Daily family devotions are a good prescription to strengthen the family.
What greater time can be spent together as a family than to do so hearing the Word of their Lord? What could be better than going together to God in prayer to cast their cares upon Him, to bring their requests to Him, and to praise Him for His rich grace and mercy as they receive the assurance that their sins are all forgiven?
God says, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in your richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
