We are Stewards of God’s Creation—Caring for, not Worshipping Nature

A Word of Truth #017

The psalmist says that the earth, together with everything and everyone in it, belongs to God (cf. Psalm 24:1). What is to be our role in God’s creation? We are to be stewards—caretakers of what God has created.

This was God’s original plan. He told Adam and Eve to “subdue” the earth and have “dominion” over it (cf. Genesis 1:28). Because there was no sin in the world at that time, God’s instructions in no way implied that man exploit or abuse creation. Rather, he was to care for it as God’s representative.

Since sin has entered the world, man often forgets his God-given role. At times he exploits creation, while at other times he worships it. God approves of neither extreme. We are to be His responsible stewards, by caring for the world and developing it to His glory and for our mutual blessing.

He’s Risen!

A Word of Truth #018

It’s empty! The grave where Jesus’ dead body was laid is empty! He’s gone! He has risen from death and is alive!

Jesus died on the cross and was buried like any other human being. All other bodies decay and turn back to the dust from which they were taken. Not Jesus! On the Third Day, He bodily, physically rose from the dead.

A living Jesus means that Jesus has defeated death. Sin (death’s cause) is also defeated. Paul writes, “If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!…but now Christ IS risen from the dead!” (1 Corinthians 15:17-18).

Jesus came as your substitute. What He did, He did for you! Jesus’ physical resurrection from the dead assures YOU that YOUR sins ARE forgiven. His empty tomb gives the confidence that YOU too will be physically raised from death to life to be glorified with God forever!
