A Word of Truth #015
It is a fact of life that all people eventually die. This happens because all people are sinful. St. Paul says, “The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23a) Fortunately, he continues, “But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:23b)
People who believe in Jesus as their Savior from sin can face death with confidence, for Jesus has overcome death for them. The Bible says that Jesus died in our place to pay the punishment our sins deserved. By rising from the dead, He overcame death for us. Because He now lives, the Bible says we shall live with Him forever.
St. Paul assures every believer in Christ of victory over death when he writes, “O death, where is your sting? O Hades (grave), where is your victory?…Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:55,57)
A Word of Truth #016
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…” (James 1:17). The apostle James reminds us that everything we are and everything we have is a gift from God. Possessions, success in the work place, happiness at home, your time – ALL are from God and belong to Him. God remains the owner of everything. “The earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1)
Even our lives do not belong to us. Our lives have been bought back from sin and hell by Jesus. Therefore, they also belong to God. “…you are not your own. You were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in Your body…which [is] God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
God has made you a steward—a manager—of your life and everything in it. As His manager, He does not seek more from you than that which He Himself gives to you. He simply desires faithful use of what He gives. “Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2).
