A Word of Truth #007
The Bible calls Jesus Christ “Immanuel,” which means “God with us.” It reveals Jesus to be true God with all the characteristics of God. At the same time it reveals Jesus to be true man with all the characteristics of man, yet without sin. The Bible, therefore, maintains that Jesus Christ is both true God and true man in the same person.
Jesus Christ, the God-man, came into this world to be your Savior. He had to be true man in order to place Himself under God’s law, to suffer the punishment that law required for your sins, and to die as your substitute. He had to be true God in order to keep God’s law perfectly on your behalf and to provide the perfect sacrifice for your sins.
Jesus Christ came into this world to save you. Learn more about Jesus in the Bible!
A Word of Truth #008 2002 revision of 1994 material
This world will one day come to an end. On that Day, all of the dead will be raised to life and all people will be gathered together for judgment. God says, “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Everyone who trusts in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, receives forgiveness, and will be declared innocent in the final judgment. Jesus will say to them, “Come! inherit the kingdom” (Matthew 25:34). Everyone who rejects Christ remains guilty of his sins and will face God’s anger. Jesus will say to them, “Depart from Me into everlasting fire” (Matthew 25:41).
Because we don’t know when God will bring the world or our own life to an end (and there are no second chances), we need to be prepared for Judgment Day at all times. We are prepared when we repent of our sins and put our trust in Jesus as our Savior from sin.
