A Word of Truth #005
Sin is a hereditary disease. King David said, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5 NIV).
All people inherit sinfulness and sin often. Our sins place us under God’s wrath. The Bible says, however, “Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more” (Romans 3:20).
Grace is undeserved love. God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to save the world from sin. Jesus died to pay for our sins. His sacrifice on our behalf is the result of God’s grace.
God’s grace delivers us from our sinful condition. God’s grace is a free gift. When we see our sin and how God delivers us from sin through Jesus, we can begin to understand grace!
A Word of Truth #006 2002 revision of 1994 material
Are my sins forgiven? Can I be sure that I am saved? God’s answer to these questions is, “YES!” because God declares you and all people free from sin.
Every one of us is guilty of sin. Yet, God declares us to be sin-free. How can this be? “God made (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). God placed the sins of all people upon Jesus and punished Him instead of us; and He gives us Christ’s righteousness.
You can be sure that you are saved from your sin because Jesus was your substitute in His life and when He died on the cross. There is no condition which you must fulfill because God’s forgiveness rests entirely upon the work of Jesus. God’s “great exchange” of sin for righteousness between you and Christ is your comfort and confidence.
