Pre-Service Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come today praying for Christian Education – that is, education in Christ and His Word for my heart, my home, my family both near and extended, my congregation, my fellow sinners. Teach me to so love the sinners of today and each new generation so that I support Christian Education in all of its forms through my prayers and resources. Move me to strive diligently to uphold the truth of Your Word so it is passed down as a heritage. Bless each new generation with a love for Your Word and a diligence in their study of it so that they may set their hope in God—the true God and Jesus, our Savior from sin. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 32

First Reading:

2 Samuel 15:1-16a

David’s son, Absalom, conspired against his father, the king. Absalom showed disregard for the authority of his father, of his king, and of his God. Nevertheless, David did not stop loving Absalom nor desiring Absalom’s well-being (cf. sermon text).

Second Reading:

2 Peter 1:16-21

Over 80 children spent last week studying Bible “stories.” But these are not just stories and fairy tales as many suppose, they are the very words of God which are true and profitable and lead to salvation. A prayer for Christian Education is that we confess firmly with Peter—these are not unimportant, equivocal stories, they are Truth from God Himself.
