Pre-Service Prayer:

Almighty, ever-living God, grant that I may gladly hear Your Word and that all my worship may be acceptable to You. When the struggles of this life—whatever they may be—press hard upon me, let me not become discouraged. Rather, let the trials drive me ever more to You and Your Word in order to be renewed in the joy of my salvation and the hope I have in Christ.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 23

First Reading:

1 Corinthians 9:16-23

The apostle Paul had one goal: Proclaim the Gospel and thereby bring salvation, life, and hope to sinners. In order to accomplish this Paul was willing to serve all and be all things to all people—meeting them where they were—so that he could share the good news with them.

Second Reading:

Mark 1:29-29

Peter’s mother-in-law was ill, others had diseases, some were demon-possessed—these all were blessed when Jesus rescued them from their earthly sorrow and misery. Jesus gave relief from the earthly effects of sin, but even more importantly He preached the Word which delivers from eternal misery and death.
