Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord Jesus, let me ever rejoice in the grace of God, in the redemption which You so wondrously won for me, in the life that is mine through Your life, and in the confidence that is mine in the knowledge that You are living and acting for me. Move me to exhibit genuine Christian character as a way of giving You thanks, to the glory of Your holy name and as a light shining in a dark world. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 92

First Reading:

1 Peter 1:13-21

What defines us as disciples of a living Lord? Peter characterized the Christian as someone whose mind is prepared for action, sober, and hoping fully in the grace of God revealed through Jesus Christ. That hope is built upon the blessed truth that we have been redeemed from our death and given life through our Savior.

Second Reading:

Luke 24:13-35

The two disciples on the road to Emmaus were extremely downhearted based upon their incomplete and erroneous understanding of Jesus’ work and purpose. The power of truth—Jesus’ Word—burned in their hearts, instructed them to see how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament, and brought them joy.
