Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord Jesus, Light of the world, shine into my heart. Enable me to show forth Your light through my life’s walk and cause it to shine brightly. Keep all darkness from me. Give me the resolve to not mix the darkness of sin with my life lived for You. Give me the courage to bring the works of darkness to light and share Your saving Word with all. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 143

First Reading:

John 9:1-23

When Jesus saw a man who was blind from birth He first corrected the disciples’ misunderstanding—the man wasn’t blind as a punishment for some sin, rather his blindness would provide an opportunity for Jesus to reveal Himself as the Son of God by healing the man. Jesus’ healing prompted much speculation about Jesus and how He had done this.

Second Reading:

John 1:24-41

After questioning the parents of the man who was born blind the Pharisees interviewed the man himself for a second time. The man simply confessed what he knew: he had been blind, a man named Jesus healed him, and there was no way that this was done apart from God. The Pharisees excommunicated the man, but Jesus took the opportunity to further reveal Himself to the man, encourage him, and strengthen his faith.
