Pre-Service Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank and praise You for loving me with an everlasting love that has provided salvation from my sins. Thank You for revealing Your love and salvation to me in Your Word. Help me to cling to the certainty of Your Word and to treasure it always. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 148

First Reading:

Exodus 24:9-18

Moses saw the glory of the LORD when he met with Him on Mount Sinai. He would see this glory again in the person of Jesus Christ as he miraculously spoke with Jesus during His transfiguration. The Lord’s glory evident as the Law was given on Mount Sinai was also revealed through Jesus Christ as He accomplished salvation for sinners.

Second Reading:

Matthew 17:1-9

Jesus’ transfiguration gave His disciples a glimpse of the glory that He set aside to become the Savior of sinners, humbling Himself to the point of death on the cross. This glimpse would become important assurance for the disciples when they would soon see Jesus dying on the cross.
