Hymns: 62, 645(1-2,4-5), 702/58, 55(2-4)
Pre-Service Prayer:

Oh, come, O Root of Jesse!
Free Your own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of Hell Your people save,
and give them victory over the grave.
Dear Jesus, come, set us free from our sin, and reign in our hearts forever! Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 72

First Reading:

Isaiah 11:1-10

God promised King David that one of his descendants would be the promised Savior and that God “would establish the throne of his kingdom forever” (2 Samuel 7:13). Isaiah refers to the Messiah’s family line by calling Him a “shoot from the trunk of Jesse”(David’s father). Isaiah continues by describing the work of the Savior and the blessings He would bring.

Second Reading:

1 Peter 2:4-10

The people of Israel were “God’s chosen peopl” of the Old Testament, because they were the ancestors of Jesus. However, salvation was never limited to the Israelites. God’s true people, the chosen generation, the royal priesthood, are all who by God’s grace put their trust in Christ and are made the people of God through faith in Him.
