Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to this earth to be not only my Savior but the Savior of the whole world. Thank You for giving us the Gospel and sending Your Holy Spirit to bring us to faith in You. Help me to fully appreciate the great power that lies in Your Word and to treat it with awe and humility and also share it with others. Keep all sinful thoughts from my mind and heart, so that I will be moved to willingly and eagerly share Your Word with everyone! Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 66

First Reading:

Exodus 3:1-15

God called Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt. Moses’ first objection was, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” Who was Moses? He was the one chosen and called by God! Armed with God’s powerful Word and acting by God’s command Moses did indeed have the ability, strength, and power to lead the people of Israel and confront the Pharaoh of Egypt (even though he continued to object, cf. vv.16ff).

Second Reading:

Romans 7:14-25a

It’s amazing that any of us are saved! Even as children of God we still struggle with following our sinful flesh and doing the things we don’t want to do. The sin that keeps popping up in our lives demonstrates our human nature–we are sinners! We would be lost eternally, but the Gospel of Christ has worked the miracle of faith in our hearts and through faith brings us the forgiveness of sins.
