Pre-Service Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I sin daily by failing to love You above all else and by failing to show a purposeful love to those whom I meet and with whom I live and work. Forgive me. Work in my heart with the Word of Your love so that my love for You and others will be deepened. Show me the many ways I can demonstrate that love and then move me to do so. Send the Holy Spirit upon us and bless us in worship today. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 33

First Reading:

Leviticus 19:1-18

God's law is summarized in two statements: 1) Love the LORD, your God, above all else; and 2) Love your neighbor as yourself. God expects perfect obedience to His law. Our failing love is sin. God's unfailing love forgives our sins and motivates us to love even more.

Second Reading:

1 Corinthians 13:1-13

"Love" can be defined in so many ways. The apostle Paul gives the only real definition of true love, namely, God's definition. True love is a love of purpose and self-sacrifice. True love is demonstrated in God's love toward sinners. As you hear Paul's description of "true love" consider how each characteristic of that love is demonstrated in God's love for you. Then rejoice to have the opportunity to show the same kind of love to others!
