Pre-Service Prayer:

Lord, I confess that my love for You is imperfect and often half-hearted. There are countless reasons for me to love You with a deep and abiding love and still I fail to do so. Forgive my sin. Through the good news of Your Gospel help me to grow in appreciation for all that You have done and still do for me, so that I will love You more deeply and more constantly. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Pre-Service Devotion:

Psalm 13

There is every reason to praise the Lord! The reasons begin with His care for our souls. Out of undeserved love and compassion, the Lord has totally removed all our sins. Having so richly blessed us spiritually, God also gives us blessings for this life. Even the Lord’s blessings on this earth are temporary, but His mercy and spiritual blessings are FOREVER! Bless the LORD!!

We love God because He first loved us and sent His Son Jesus to be our Savior. We show that we love God by keeping His commandments which include showing a meaningful love toward one another. True love for God is found in a heart that believes in Jesus as its Savior. Through faith in Christ we overcome the world and all who would oppose us.

Second Reading:

Mark 12:28-34

Jesus summarized the whole law of God into two general commands: Love God completely and above all else, and love your neighbor as yourself. The scribe who was questioning Jesus, rightly said that the love of the heart is far greater (and accepted by God) than any external, supposed act of love.
