Welcome to Kindergarten at
Immanuel Lutheran School
Goals and Purpose
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the Kingdom of God”(Mark 10:14). Immanuel’s purpose is to continue the training started at home by the parents. We strive to give each child the skills needed to walk through this world hand-in-hand with Jesus. Children need the guidance, discipline, and security which only God’s Word can give.
Schedules
A successful school experience is the shared responsibility of parents, child, and school. Prompt and regular attendance is important.
School Hours
8:05 a.m.-2:40 p.m.
The Kindergarten Day
Bible time, memorization, reading, and math are done in the morning. Group discussions, hands-on activities, and book time are a part of the learning experience during this time.
Quiet time, story time, journal writing, interactive social time, and learning-center activities, plus plenty of coloring, cutting, and gluing time are among the afternoon activities.
Recess is very important for the development of gross motor skills. We use the gym for recess on days when we are not able to go outside. Please help your child dress appropriately for recess each day.
Physical education is offered twice a week and music is offered four times a week.
Field trips are also enjoyed as a great out of school experience.
Snacktime
We ask the families of kindergarten students to provide snacks for the class to share. Milk is provided by the school. Birthdays are important to your child. We are always happy to have a special birthday treat.
Conferences
The kindergarten teacher will visit each student’s home before the start of the school year. Another conference will be scheduled with parents in the fall. Additional conferences can be scheduled if needed by calling the school (345-3027).
Parent Volunteers
Once the classroom routine has been established and the students are comfortable with the routine, parents are welcome to come to the classroom and share a story, play board games, do a craft project, help with a field trip, or provide other learning experiences for the students.
Classroom Parties
Two classroom parties are held each year: One during the Christmas season and one around Valentine’s Day. Parents and other relatives are invited to attend.
Communication
During the school year the majority of classroom information will be found in the school’s Weekly Update. The Weekly Update is sent home with students each week.
Transportation
Busing is available to students within District 77. There are three bus companies that provide transportation to our school: Manske Bus Service, Palmer Bus Service, and Yaeger Bus Service.
Students who are transported by parents should not be dropped off more than 15 minutes before school starts, nor stay more than 15 minutes after school is dismissed.
Hot Lunch
A hot lunch is available every school day. Lunch tickets and milk tickets are available for purchase in the school office. Contact the school office for information about free and reduced-price lunches.
